Riva Primary School is a proud member of the Your Move program, a Western Australian initiative that supports schools and communities to develop safe, healthy, and sustainable ways to travel.
The program encourages students and families to consider active travel options such as walking, riding, scooting, and using public transport, helping make the journey to school safer, healthier, and better for our environment.
At Riva Primary School, we actively promote these choices and work with our community to make travelling to school active, safe, and car-free whenever possible.
Through the Your Move program, our students have benefited from bike education incursions, where they learn practical cycling skills, road awareness, and safe riding habits in a fun and engaging environment.
In recognition of these efforts, Riva Primary School achieved Double Platinum status in 2025, the highest level of recognition within the Your Move program. This reflects the strong commitment of our students, families, and staff to building healthy travel habits and reducing traffic congestion around the school.
Choosing active travel instead of driving has many benefits for students, families, and our community.
Healthy habits for life
Walking or riding to school helps children develop positive health and lifestyle habits from a young age.
Safer school environment
Fewer cars around the school gates reduce congestion and improve safety for everyone.
Daily exercise
Active travel helps children meet their recommended daily physical activity and arrive at school energised and ready to learn.
Quality family time
Walking or riding together provides valuable time to talk and connect before and after school.
Simple routines
Active travel can become an easy and consistent part of the daily routine.
We understand that not every family can walk or ride the entire way to school — and that’s perfectly okay. Even small changes can make a big difference.
Park a little further away
Use the maps below to identify nearby streets with available parking. Walking the final few minutes to school helps reduce congestion at the school gates.
Harrisdale shops option
Families may choose to park at the Harrisdale shops and walk or ride the remaining distance to school.
Every little bit helps
Active travel doesn’t have to happen every day. Even occasional changes help reduce traffic, improve safety, and contribute to a healthier start to the day.
Together, we can make the journey to school healthier, safer, and more sustainable — because every step, scoot, or pedal counts.
