Head Lice

Head lice are most common among primary school aged children. A head lice infestation is not the result of dirty hair, or poor hygiene, just close hair to hair contact. While head lice do not cause illness or disease, they can be irritating, and frustrating to both the children, and the adults who must do the treatment.

The Health Department WA has a fact sheet which details how to check for and treat for head lice.

We continue to maintain Riva as a safe and healthy learning environment for students, staff and our community and have the following measures in place across the school to support community health.

Preventative Measures

  • Ventilation plan in place, including air monitoring and deployment of air purifiers along with mechanical and natural ventilation for every room in the school.
  • Enhanced cleaning, including more frequent cleaning of high-contact surfaces.
  • The school maintains stock of hand sanitiser and has handwashing facilities with liquid soap and paper towels and/or hot air hand dryers in all toilets.

How our students, staff and community can help

  • Staff, students and parents must stay home when you are sick.
  • Covering mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, using a flexed elbow or tissue.
  • Disposing of tissues appropriately.
  • Washing hands regularly for 20 seconds with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitiser, including prior to meal breaks.
